African Flute

Picture
This is a flute from Africa. This instrument was made mid-late 20th century. It is used for religious purposes and communicating during hunting. I think that this instrument is very simple but very cool at the same time.

My Bucket Drum (before decorated)

Silent Movie Drafts March 024
This is a drum. It is played by hitting it with a spoon. I made this by taping two buckets together. I have only faced one big problem which was getting the smaller bucket on the bigger one. But I overcame this by simply taping them together.

My Finished Bucket Drum

Picture
This is my completed drum. The first decorative element that I put on my instrument was the NBA Finals logo. This fits into my culture because its a very important tradition in basketball. Another decorative element that I put on my instrument was a referee blowing a whistle. He is an important part of the "government", enforcing the rules so they are followed. I have added many other things too including elements from religion and common language.

My Musical Composition

My musical composition was (monkey monkey monkey snake, monkey monkey monkey snake, monkey monkey monkey snake, syncopation, half note, monkey monkey snake snake, monkey monkey snake snake, monkey monkey snake snake, whole note.)

My part in my group was first thinking of good ideas (even though I wasn't the only one) like having each of our cultural themes be a different sport and (in my opinion) I was an important part of my groups musical composition because I was one of the only members who had syncopation.

My cultural vibrations report will provide information I have discovered about my musical instrument. The report will give interesting information about the design, the comparisons to other instruments and the traditions important to my creations.

Can you imagine the thought of two buckets doubling as a decorative drum set and a cultural artifact? This is possible, because I myself have done this.It is a musical instrument because it is an object that can play a rhythm and change its pitch, in addition to this it is a cultural artifact because it is a man-made object that is used during a specific time period.I have also added many decorations to my instrument to represent parts of my culture. For example, under the cultural element of traditions I have put the NBA Finals logo.I have also put a referee blowing a whistle for government and a picture of Shaquille O’neal for religion.

Close your eyes and imagine a big decorative sports drum and a small simple flute, even though there are no obvious similarities there are multiple comparisons. These instruments (in certain ways) are similar in how they are used because they both represent what the people believe in.For instance, the African instrument is used during rituals which are a part of their religion and my instrument is used during basketball games which some people consider part of their culture.Lastly, the instruments are similar in what they represent because they both represent specific activities that require specific skills. For example, my instrument represents basketball which requires certain skills while the African instrument is used during hunting which also requires certain skills.

Although there are a few similarities between these two instruments there are even more differences. For example one of the differences is how they are used because they are played during two completely different events, my instrument is used during a basketball game but the African instrument is used during rituals. The instruments are also different in what they represent because while they both represent parts of their culture, the elements used to represent these parts are very different.

“Help wanted, musical performance needed during half time at the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics basketball game two or three times a week.”
My bucket drum can be used as a part of my cultural experience.A great cultural tradition for my instrument is to be a part of the halftime show at that game.My theme is basketball and I will be playing to energize the crowd and get them involved in the game. In the performance I will need to wear a similar outfit as the people that I am cheering for in the game.

That is the interesting information about my instrument including the design, the comparisons to other instruments, and the traditions important to my creation.
